A fire broke out on the upper floors of the McMenamins High Street Brewery & Café just before noon on Tuesday.
The fire caused significant damage on the upper floors of the building at 1243 High St., and resulted in water damage throughout, Eugene Springfield Battalion Chief Anthony Bucher said. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, he said, but an investigation is ongoing.
“It started on the upper floors, in the attic and roof,” Bucher said. “Our initial arriving companies got a great knockdown on the fire from the exterior and the interior. Then we had crews in the lower level trying to salvage and protect anything down below.”
The report of the fire came in at 11:54 a.m., and people were inside the building who were evacuated by the time firefighters arrived, Bucher said. There were no injuries during the fire, he added.
The fire led to tall, billowing smoke, and flames were coming from the top, according to Higher Ground dispensary manager Katy Cote, who was working in the store neighboring the brewery when the fire started.
