GENESEE TWP, MI – A medical marijuana social lounge tucked off Richfield Road in Genesee Township is bringing a big musical act to its stage next month.
Vehicle City Social is hosting a Sept. 10 performance by rapper Snoop Dogg as DJ Snoopadelic inside the facility at 3166 Comer St.
Josh Keasler, a member of Vehicle City’s board of directors, said the Snoop Dogg show came about through a connection he has with the Detroit rapper Trick Trick, who is slated to serve as master of ceremonies and DJ at the show.
“It’s just been something that’s been brewing,” said Keasler of the show. “(We’re) incredibly excited. We’ve been receiving calls from all over the state right away. We expect it’ll be a sellout.”
The 14,000 square-foot private facility opened in August 2016 caters to caregivers and patients of the state’s medical marijuana program. An outdoor patio is currently in the works to expand the lounge’s capacity to more than 1,000 patrons.
It also houses pool tables, a full-sized kitchen, concert stage and dance floor.
The facility previously housed the Plush Hobo bar from 1972-92, complete with a swimming pool. It then operated as J.J. Shakers for nine years and later as the Hobo’s Back in 2009, according to Flint Journal records.
“We are not a dispensary,” Keasler said. “We are just an avenue, a setting for people with open-minded conversations (about medical marijuana).”
Patients can meet with caregivers as Vehicle City Social serves as a safe transfer facility, Keasler noted.
A 3,500 square-foot drop-in area for veterans in the former swimming pool area is being coordinated with the nonprofit organization Odin’s Outcast, which helps connect veterans with services.
The project is one that’s close to Keasler’s heart having
